Stampin' Up!© Summer Shadows Dies

Welcome to my blog!  The cards I'm sharing today use two FREE Sale-a-Bration products:  the Summer Shadows Dies and the Beautifully Penned Designer Series Paper.  I have to thank Meg Loven for the ideas and techniques used to create these cards.

Sale-a-Bration is going on now, through the end of September.  Choose FREE items from the SAB Brochure when you make a purchase of Stampin' Up! products totaling $50 (level 1) or $100 (level 2).  Click the Brochure image in the right panel to browse the products.

Supplies for the 2 cards I'm showing today can be seen HERE.

Summer Shadow Dies - 156618

The Summer Shadows Dies are a SAB Level 2 product, FREE with a $100 purchase.  By the way, these Dies coordinate with the Shaded Summer stamp set (item 155783), on page 75 of the Annual Catalog.  I didn't use the stamps for this card, but it's always nice to have both stamps + the dies that coordinate.

For the first card, I'll explain in detail how I used the Summer Shadows Dies to create the masks.  The techniques I used are masking, and blending.  For the blending, I used the Blending Brushes, applying the ink over and around the masks.  The 2nd card will use the pretty DSP as an additional element.

Card 1

To start:  Cut a piece of Basic White card stock to 3 1/2" x 4 3/4".

Die-cut the masks from a sticky note (Post-It) or other thin paper.  Use the large & small solid flowers, and the large and small solid leaves.   Cut a rectangle mask, 3" x 1 1/4".  This will mask off an area where the sentiment will be stamped.  When cutting the masks from Post-It, try and place the dies over the sticky area of the sticky note so that the mask will stick to your card panel.  You will still have to hold the masks in place as you gently blend ink over them, but the stickiness helps hold them a little, too.

Position the masks on the card panel.

Masks die-cut from Post-It and positioned on panel.

The ink colors are Pale Papaya (large flower), Polished Pink (small flower) and Mint Macaron (leaves).

Keep all the masks in place as you add color with the inks and the Blending Brushes.  You will be overlapping some of the areas of color, blending as you go.

Now, this requires a little patience:  hold down the masks & without allowing them to move, start with Pale Papaya ink and Blending Brush.  Apply the ink in a gentle, circular motion over the large flower.  You want to apply ink beyond the actual mask.  Keep applying the ink until you get the amount of color you like.   Next, do the same with the Polished Pink ink over the smaller flower, and the Mint Macaron over the leaves.

Carefully lift up the two flower masks, reposition them near the bottom of the card, and repeat blending.

When all the blending is done, gently remove all the masks.  You'll have the floral & leaf outlines, as well as an area for the sentiment to be stamped.

Masks removed after blending.

Using the Biggest Wish Stamp Set, stamp "HELLO" in Basic Gray ink, first stamping-off on piece of scratch paper (to make it a lighter gray).   Then stamp "friend" using Memento Black, full strength.

Some more die-cutting - using the floral & leaves outline dies, cut from Polished Pink and Mint Macaron card stock.  Glue these over the large flower and the large leaves that you have blended on the card panel.

Cut a mat of Basic Black card stock:  3 5/8" x 4 7/8".   Glue the floral card panel to this mat.  Glue all to the card base:   Card base:  Polished Pink CS 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", folded in half (at 4 1/4").

Add embellishments:  the Loose Flower Flourishes are perfect for this.

The 2nd card uses the FREE Sale-a-Bration product, Beautifully Penned DSP.

Beautifully Penned 12" x 12" DSP - 156630.  FREE with a purchase of $50

Card 2

The DSP layer is 4 1/8" x 5 3/8", glued to a Polished Pink card base (same size as first card) 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", folded at 4 1/4".

The Basic White CS is masked & inked as was done on the first card.  Add the die-cut flower & leaves outline pieces, trimming as necessary.  This imaged piece is smaller than the first card - it's trimmed down to 3" x 4 1/4".  Glue to the black mat, which is 3 1/8" x 4 3/8".   (just 1/8" larger all around than the inked panel - I use this measurement a lot when adding a dark mat.)  Using Stampin' Dimensionals, adhere this to the DSP card front at a slight angle.  Add embellishments.

There you have 2 versions of this card, using the masking & blending techniques.  With a little practice you can create this type of card for all occasions, with many color combinations, and various DSP.   I hope you'll give it a try!

See all the paper & ink supplies & stamp set HERE.   Add all supplies you need to your cart.  Choose more products, if necessary, to earn Sale-a-Bration items Summer Shadow Dies (156618) and Beautifully Penned DSP (156630).   You're sure to find many ways to use these wonderful products.

I so appreciate you taking a look, today.  And I hope you found some inspiration.  Let me know if you have any questions.

till next time, take care!   JULIE

Joyful Life

Hey!  What's Cookin'?  Happy to have you here today.

If you viewed my prior posts, you know I love the adorable images in the Joyful Life stamp set!  How about this cute hedge-hog?  I gave him a chef's toque from the What's Cookin' stamp set.  The DSP is called You're A Peach, so naturally the bowl he's carrying is full of peaches.

Stamp sets: Joyful Life & What's Cookin'

Dies:  Scalloped Contour Dies

View all supplies HERE.

Details for creating this card:

Card base:  Balmy Blue card stock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", score/fold at 4 1/4".

Designer Series Paper:  You're A Peach.  Cut this using the large die in Scallops & Contours Dies.  Glue to card base.

Image piece:

  • Stamp the hedge-hog in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Basic White CS.
  • Stamp the chef's hat (toque) and the sentiment from What's Cookin' stamp set.  In the set, the hat image is a trio - just ink up one of these and stamp it on the hedge-hog's head.
  • Die cut using another die from Scalloped Contours Dies.
  • Color in the hedge-hog using Stampin' Blends:  Cinnamon Cider, Balmy Blue, Crumb Cake, Pumpkin Pie, Calypso Coral, Old Olive.
  • Color a small border of Balmy Blue around the entire image.
  • Glue the image piece to the card front.

Here's another version, in the landscape orientation.  The same size card base.  The DSP layer is 5 3/8" x 4 1/8",  and a strip of the flip side of the DSP as an accent piece - cut 1" x 5 1/4" and cut a flag on one end.  Clear embellishments were added, too.   Take a look, below

Joyful Life To The Moon

Welcome to my blog!  I hope you'll find some inspiration here, today.  I used a few techniques to create this fun card - heat embossing, masking, and blending. I'll walk you through the steps...keep reading.

I combined elements from several stamp sets & supplies to create this card.  For those who remember the movie (from the '80s?) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, this card will be reminiscent of that.

To see the products used, and add to your cart, go HERE.

Let's go through the steps.

1.  Start with Basic White Card Stock, cut to 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".

2.  On another piece of Basic White CS, stamp the moon image from To The Moon stamp set using Smoky Slate ink.  Then use the appropriate size Layering Circle Die to cut it out.  Set it aside for now.

3.  Using the next larger circle die, cut a "mask" using a sticky note if you have, or a piece of printer paper.  Position the mask on the white CS from step 1.  You'll want to know where the moon will be on your card, when you go to the next step.

4.  Using Versamark ink pad, stamp the dots image from Time of Giving stamp set, randomly around where the moon will be.  Sprinkle on White Emboss Powder, shake off excess,  & heat emboss with the Heat Tool.  (you may want to temporarily remove the mask once you've stamped the dots, and before adding the Emboss Powder & heating, but you don't have to.)

5.  With the mask in place, holding it still, use Blending Brush & Misty Moonlight ink to blend the sky.  Blend in a way to have the edges darker and the area near/around the mask lighter.  The dots/stars that were heat embossed will resist the ink.  Then remove the mask.

6.  Remove the mask.  Now adhere the moon (stamped & die-cut in step 2.) where the mask had been.

7.  Using Night of Navy ink, stamp the trees from Mountain Air Stamp set.

8.  On another piece of white CS, stamp the bear-bike-bunny image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Cut out the image with scissors.  Color with Stampin' Blends (crumb cake, pretty peacock, navy).

9.  Stamp the sentiment from the Hand-penned Petals stamp set in Night of Navy on a piece of white CS; die cut with Seasonal Labels Dies.

10.  Using Stampin' Dimensionals, adhere the bike image overlapping the moon; add the sentiment piece.

11.  Glue the finished stamped piece to a Misty Moonlight CS card base (The base is cut 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".)

Finished!   What do you think?

I love the adorable characters in the Joyful Life stamp set.  I will certainly be using the set to make some more cards.  The moon image in the To The Moon set is also fabulous, don't you think?  Hmmm, Halloween moon, perhaps?  Thinking ahead....

Card Details:

  • Card base:  Poppy Parade card stock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", score & fold at 4 1/4".
  • Mat layer:  Basic Gray CS, 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".  Glue to the card base.
  • DSP layer:  Beautifully Penned floral selection, cut 5 1/4" x 4".  Glue onto of the basic gray.
  • Strip of DSP:  same selection from the Beautifully Penned pack, but the flip side, the striped side - cut a strip 5 1/4" x 3/4".  Depending how you cut it, you can have the stripes running horizontally, or vertically (see photo above). Glue this to the card front. (I positioned it about two-thirds of the way down the card front.
  • Now, using Layered Circles Dies, and using a piece of the same Beautifully Penned floral DSP, die-cut around one of the floral trios.  Color in the flowers with Stampin' Blends (Poppy Parade, Smoky Slate)
  • Die cut a piece of Basic Gray CS, one circle size larger than the floral piece.  Adhere the colored-in floral piece to this mat.

  • Using the coordinating Hand-Penned Petals stamp set, stamp the sentiment using Memento Black ink onto Basic Card Stock (a strip approximate 7/8" x 3 1/4"), then cut an angle off one end.

  • Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment and floral piece to the card front.
  • Add an embellishment of your choice - I used one of the Resin Hearts Embellishments, placed just under the "Thanks."  (see photo below for the finished cards.)

That's all there is to this card.  It comes together pretty quickly.  What do you think?

This paper is so versatile -  you can use any colors you like, and color the flowers in a number of different methods, such as with the blends, watercolor pencils, blending brushes, etc.  Then coordinate card stock card base to match.  Let you imagination go!
