Welcome to my blog! The cards I'm sharing today use two FREE Sale-a-Bration products: the Summer Shadows Dies and the Beautifully Penned Designer Series Paper. I have to thank Meg Loven for the ideas and techniques used to create these cards.
Sale-a-Bration is going on now, through the end of September. Choose FREE items from the SAB Brochure when you make a purchase of Stampin' Up! products totaling $50 (level 1) or $100 (level 2). Click the Brochure image in the right panel to browse the products.
Supplies for the 2 cards I'm showing today can be seen HERE.
The Summer Shadows Dies are a SAB Level 2 product, FREE with a $100 purchase. By the way, these Dies coordinate with the Shaded Summer stamp set (item 155783), on page 75 of the Annual Catalog. I didn't use the stamps for this card, but it's always nice to have both stamps + the dies that coordinate.
For the first card, I'll explain in detail how I used the Summer Shadows Dies to create the masks. The techniques I used are masking, and blending. For the blending, I used the Blending Brushes, applying the ink over and around the masks. The 2nd card will use the pretty DSP as an additional element.
Card 1
To start: Cut a piece of Basic White card stock to 3 1/2" x 4 3/4".
Die-cut the masks from a sticky note (Post-It) or other thin paper. Use the large & small solid flowers, and the large and small solid leaves. Cut a rectangle mask, 3" x 1 1/4". This will mask off an area where the sentiment will be stamped. When cutting the masks from Post-It, try and place the dies over the sticky area of the sticky note so that the mask will stick to your card panel. You will still have to hold the masks in place as you gently blend ink over them, but the stickiness helps hold them a little, too.
Position the masks on the card panel.
The ink colors are Pale Papaya (large flower), Polished Pink (small flower) and Mint Macaron (leaves).
Keep all the masks in place as you add color with the inks and the Blending Brushes. You will be overlapping some of the areas of color, blending as you go.
Now, this requires a little patience: hold down the masks & without allowing them to move, start with Pale Papaya ink and Blending Brush. Apply the ink in a gentle, circular motion over the large flower. You want to apply ink beyond the actual mask. Keep applying the ink until you get the amount of color you like. Next, do the same with the Polished Pink ink over the smaller flower, and the Mint Macaron over the leaves.
Carefully lift up the two flower masks, reposition them near the bottom of the card, and repeat blending.
When all the blending is done, gently remove all the masks. You'll have the floral & leaf outlines, as well as an area for the sentiment to be stamped.
Using the Biggest Wish Stamp Set, stamp "HELLO" in Basic Gray ink, first stamping-off on piece of scratch paper (to make it a lighter gray). Then stamp "friend" using Memento Black, full strength.
Some more die-cutting - using the floral & leaves outline dies, cut from Polished Pink and Mint Macaron card stock. Glue these over the large flower and the large leaves that you have blended on the card panel.
Cut a mat of Basic Black card stock: 3 5/8" x 4 7/8". Glue the floral card panel to this mat. Glue all to the card base: Card base: Polished Pink CS 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", folded in half (at 4 1/4").
Add embellishments: the Loose Flower Flourishes are perfect for this.

The 2nd card uses the FREE Sale-a-Bration product, Beautifully Penned DSP.
Card 2
The DSP layer is 4 1/8" x 5 3/8", glued to a Polished Pink card base (same size as first card) 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", folded at 4 1/4".
The Basic White CS is masked & inked as was done on the first card. Add the die-cut flower & leaves outline pieces, trimming as necessary. This imaged piece is smaller than the first card - it's trimmed down to 3" x 4 1/4". Glue to the black mat, which is 3 1/8" x 4 3/8". (just 1/8" larger all around than the inked panel - I use this measurement a lot when adding a dark mat.) Using Stampin' Dimensionals, adhere this to the DSP card front at a slight angle. Add embellishments.
There you have 2 versions of this card, using the masking & blending techniques. With a little practice you can create this type of card for all occasions, with many color combinations, and various DSP. I hope you'll give it a try!
