Stampin' Up!© Grace's Garden

Today I want to share some more card ideas using products that are on the Last-Chance list.  These products are being retired from the current Annual Catalog in order to make room for new items coming soon.  Click HERE to see products in my online store.

For today's cards, the stamp set I used is Grace's Garden and coordinating Garden Gateway Dies.  The Designer Series Paper is Ornate Garden Specialty DSP.  I want to show the versatility of the stamp set, so I've created two cards.  Take a look!

The first card uses several images and dies from Grace's Garden and the coordinating Garden Gateway Dies.  The background DSP is a selection from the Ornate Garden Specialty DSP.

The card has many pieces to it.  It's a card you'll want to relax and spend some time crafting. I find it easiest to cut all the components first, then create the blended garden image inside the arch, taking time to compose and arrange the stamped plant images as I like.  Finally, assemble it all together.

I've given the measurements and basic steps below.

  • Card base:  Basic White card stock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" & folded at 4 1/4".
  • Piece of Basic White CS that will be blended & stamped: 4" x 5 1/4".  The blending is explained in a bit (keep reading)
  • The DSP layer:  4 1/8" x 5 3/8".  Die-cut an opening in the center, using the arch die from Garden Gateway Dies.
  • Early Espresso CS:  A piece large enough to die-cut the arch-gate piece; also another piece to stamp the fence image (black ink) and die-cut it.  Once die-cut, fussy cut it to divide into two fence sections (these go on either side of the arch-gate piece).
  • So Saffron: small pieces for the sentiment & the little bird.
  • Flirty Flamengo: small pieces for the cat and the little flower on the sentiment piece.

Die cut pieces & set aside:

  • Cut the arch out of the DSP.
  •  Cut the arch+gate out of Espresso CS.
  • Stamp the fence piece - black ink onto Espresso CS; die cut it then cut it into 2 fence pieces.
  • Using the Flamengo CS, die-cut the flower & the cat (cat is stamped in black ink onto the Flamengo CS).
  • On the So Saffron:  stamp the "Hello" and the little bird; die-cut the bird; trim the "Hello" (approx.1 7/8" x 1/4").
Showing the arch+gate die cut, the opening in the DSP, and the blended insert piece (see blending below)

Blending step:

  • Using the white CS piece 4" x 5 1/4", and Blending Brushes, start at the bottom with Pear Pizazz ink and blend from the bottom towards the center, darker at the bottom, gradually lighter towards the center.  Use So Saffron ink and blend from the top downwards toward the center, getting very light near the center.  Add just a little Flirty Flamengo ink, blended softly just above center.   As you blend, place the DSP with arch cut-out to approximate where you want your blended colors to show through.

  • Next, stamp some flower plant images using Pear Pizazz ink.  Again, place the DSP-arch-cut-out piece to approximate where you want the plants to show through. Keep in mind that the gate will cover up a lot, so stamp some higher up to show over the gate.  Some of the plants are stamped full-ink, some are "stamped off" first, to give lighter versions.

Assembly:

  • Glue the blended garden scene to the card base; set aside.
  • Glue the two fence pieces then the arch+gate piece to the front of the DSP.  You might need to trim just a smidge off the two gate pieces if they overlap the DSP edges.
  • Glue the cat and bird on top of the fences/gate (exact placement is your choice).
  • Now, use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the DSP+Gate+fences to the card front.  Add the sentiment piece and the flower piece.
Finished card front

Inside:  white CS 3 3/4" x 5", stamped with the sentiment using Espresso ink; strip of DSP 3 3/4" x 3/4".

The images in Grace's Garden stamp set lend themselves to all kinds of possible garden scenes.  But on my second card, I just used a sentiment and one floral image (stamped twice) for a quick and simple card.  You can use this layout when you want to let your pretty DSP be the star.  Again, I used a selection from the Ornate Garden Specialty DSP.

Measurements:

  • Card base:  Pear Pizazz 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", fold at 4 1/4".
  • DSP layer:  5 3/8" x 4 1/8".   Glue to the card base.
  • Sentiment piece:  white CS 3" x 3" layered onto a piece of Pear Pizazz 3 1/8" x 3 1/8".
  • Stamp the images using Pear Pizazz ink onto the white CS; glue to the Pear Pizazz square.  Glue this, then, to the card front.

I added a bow die-cut out of So Saffron CS using the die from Pierced Blooms Dies.  If you don't have a bow die, you could use an actual ribbon bow, or you could stamp one of the flower images in Grace's Garden stamp set, or add an embellishment of your choice, from what you have on hand.

There you have 2 cards with very different looks, and two different levels of crafting.  These are just a couple of ideas.  I hope you are inspired to try some of your own!  From one stamp set, many possibilities.

The stamp set, dies, and DSP are on the retiring list.  Products are available to purchase now - but only while supplies last.  Once they are gone, they're gone!   Click HERE to shop my online store.
