Stampin' Up!© Hey Birthday Chick! A Sneak Peak

Coming February 2, 2021:  coordinating dies for the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set (see set in the current 2021 JJ Mini Catalog).

The stamp set Hey Birthday Chick is in the current 2021 JJ Mini Catalog, on page 52.  So you can order it now.  Or wait!!   Coming February 2 - the coordinating dies will be available!  Get the stamps + Dies Bundle starting Feb 2 and available through June 30, 2021.  You'll save 10% when purchasing the Bundle.

Also starting on Feb.2:  a return of the stamp set Hey Chick.  Stampin' Up! is bringing this stamp set back (from 2017 SAB), something they rarely do.  And this time, ALONG WITH it, yes, there will be coordinating dies!  You can get either of the sets alone, the dies alone, or in their Bundles.   Keep scrolling down to see cards that I made using these products.

Hey Birthday Chick stamp set and dies

In the Hey Birthday Chick dies there are additional dies from those just cutting out the images in the stamp set; there is a sack of grain/feed, a picket fence, a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY die, a little chick, bow tie, and streamer....dies that can be used with many other stamp sets in your collection.

Hey Chick stamp set + Dies

In the Hey Chick Bundle, there are several more dies than those that just cut out the 4 images; there is a chicken coop die, a corn stalk & ears of corn, a sign, a chicken wire (or link fence), a tree stump...giving you many elements that you can use not just with these 2 sets, but others you may have.

Here are the item numbers and cost for ordering Bundles, beginning on February 2.
  • Hey Chick Bundle (stamp set + dies):   158627  $44.00
  • Hey Birthday Chick Bundle (stamp set + dies):  158631  $43.00
Remember, Sale-a-Bration is now happening through the end of February.   For purchases of either $50 or $100, select a SAB item from the current SAB Brochure for free.

Let's look at some cards I made using these cute stamp sets & dies.

Have a Happy Day card:
  • The stamp set and dies:  Hey Birthday Chick stamp set; Birthday Chick Dies (chicken with balloon, picket fence); Chick Dies (corn stalks); A Cut Above stamp set (for the cloud image; optional).
  • Card base:  Balmy Blue card stock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", fold in half (at 4 1/4").
  • Whisper White or Basic White card stock:  4" x 5 1/4".  This will be colored with Blending Brushes using Balmy Blue ink and Pacific Point ink.
  • Scrap of white card stock:  stamp with chicken-balloon image & die cut.  Chicken is colored with Stampin' Blends in Pumpkin Pie; balloon is colored with Granny Apple Green.
  • Die cuts:  fence die is cut out of Crumb Cake card stock; corn stalks are die-cut out of Granny Apple Green card stock.
For the background, create an ombre look by blending Balmy Blue ink from the middle of the white layer piece, fading out as you go towards the top of the card.  Similarly, with Pacific Point ink, blend darker from the bottom of the card up towards the middle, blending over the balmy blue.  In other words, the top half is balmy blue, the bottom half is pacific point.

Stamp the chicken with the balloon, and die cut it out.  Color in with light & dark Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends.  Adhere to sky background using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Die cut the fence twice, and the corn stalks 3 times.

Glue the corn stalks first, then glue the fence pieces along the bottom of the sky piece, overlapping the corn.  Stamp the clouds with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, as well as the sentiment from the Hey Chick stamp set.  Finally, adhere the scene to the Balmy Blue card base.
Glue corn stalks hanging off the bottom, showing chicken flying above them; trim excess.

Add fence pieces, stamp sentiment, then glue the panel to the card base.  All done!

Thinking of You card.
The next card could be a Valentine or just a thinking-of-you card sent to someone special.

Stamp sets and dies:  Hey Chick stamp set; Chick Dies; Lots of Heart stamp set; Many Hearts Dies.
Card base:  Magenta Madness card stock, 8 1/2" x 4 1/4", fold in half (at 4 1/4").
Layer of Black card stock:  4 1/8" x 4 1/8".  Glue this layer to the card base.
White card stock layer:  4" x 4".  Blend background using Melon Mambo ink and Blending Brushes.

These are the steps to making the card:
  • Background:  onto the white cardstock, add Melon Mambo ink using Blending Brushes to create the focal point, darker in the center and gradually lighter as you blend outward.

  • Dotted heart images:  using the set Lots of Heart, stamp the dotted heart image twice using Blushing Bride ink.  I stamped them in opposite corners.
  • Sentiment:  from the Lots of Heart set, stamp the sentiment in Melon Mambo.
  • The "X" and heart image at the bottom of the piece:  I first made a "stencil" and then used the blending brush with Melon Mambo ink to create this feature.  For the stencil:  use the die from Many Hearts Dies and a piece of card stock (any color - I used a piece of white);  use a large enough piece so that when you start blending the ink, you don't go off the stencil onto the card front.  Place the stencil onto the card front where you want the image, and holding it down, gently apply Melon Mambo ink using the blender brush.  Carefully lift off the stencil piece, revealing the X and Hearts image.

  • Chicken:  stamp the chicken from the Hey Chick set using Black Memento ink onto a piece of white CS; die cut using the Chick Dies. Color hair feathers with stampin' blends (melon mambo), and feet (mango melody).

  • Small heart behind the chicken:  from the Lots of Heart stamp set, stamp the little heart onto white using Melon Mambo ink; die cut using Many Hearts Dies.
  • Adhere chicken using Stampin' Dimensionals; glue the small heart slightly behind the chicken.
  • Adhere the scene piece to the card base.
  • The little heart embellishment next to the sentiment (optional):  Resin Hearts (154578) are part of the Snail Mail Suite (Suite item 155986).  The hearts come in white and red; I colored one of the white ones pink using Stampin' Blends.

And now, a Happy Birthday card:

  • Stamp set and dies:  Hey Birthday Chick stamps; Birthday Chick Dies; Stitched Shapes Dies (oval);  All Wired Up stamp set (background).
  • Card stock:
    • Card base:  Basic Gray card stock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", fold in half (4 1/4").
    • Layer:  Bumblebee card stock, 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".
    • White card stock:  5 1/4" x 4".
    • Pieces of card stock for die cutting:  Bumblebee CS (Happy Birthday), Black CS (Happy Birthday), White CS (chicken and balloon images), Bermuda Bay CS (oval).

Steps to make this card:
  • Stamp the All Wired Up image onto the White card stock layer using Basic Gray ink; glue this stamped layer to the Bumblebee layer;  then glue to the Basic Gray card base.
  • Die cut the oval from Stitched Shapes dies from the Bermuda Bay CS; glue to card front.
  • Stamp the chicken image onto white CS using Black Memento ink;  die cut using Birthday Chick Dies; color beak and head feathers in real red with Stampin' Blends.
  • Balloons:  from the stamp set Hey Birthday Chick, stamp the image of the chicken-balloon image three times onto white card stock using black ink.  You won't be using the chicken, so you really only need enough of card stock to capture the balloon.  Die cut using Birthday Chick Dies, and then cut any portion of the chicken image away from the balloon image.  Color balloons using Stampin' Blends in Real Red, Mango Melody, and either Bermuda Bay or Mint Macaron (or a combination, to get the aqua color you like).
Main chicken stamped, die-cut.  Chicken with balloon - just use the balloon part of the image (3 times).

  • Adhere the Chicken and Balloon images using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • Happy Birthday:  die cut once from Bumblebee CS, a 2nd time from Black CS using Birthday Chick Dies.  Adhere the two pieces together, black behind the bumblebee, to create a shadow effect.  Then adhere to card front: I used glue where it overlaps the oval, and dimensional beneath the "-ay" of "birthday."

These stamp sets and dies provide lots of versatility.  I have shown just a few ways to use them, but the possibilities are many.  I hope you found some inspiration here, today.   Be thinking of some creations of your own, and visit my online store when you're ready to order these stamps & dies, starting Tuesday, February 2.   With a minimum of $50, you can also get a Sale-a-Bration item.
