Stampin' Up!© Easter Friends Double-Z card

I always look forward to Spring and especially Easter.  What about you?

Well, I couldn't wait to share this card with you.  I was inspired by Meg Loven for the Double-Z layout that she did.  I'll give you the dimensions and how to make it.  It's not only fun, but very easy to put together.  There will be a link for all the supplies at the bottom of the post.

To see where we're going with this card, here is a view from the top.  The card base (blushing bride) forms a Z, and the sentiment strip (crushed curry) forms the 2nd Z.

But let's start at the beginning.

  • Card base:  Blushing Bride CS, 8 1/2" X 4 1/4".  Score at 4 1/4" and at 2 1/8".
  • Strip for "mechanism":  Crushed Curry CS, 8 1/2" x 3/4".  Score at 4 1/4" and at 2 1/8".
  • Fold along the score lines, forming the Z in both the base & the strip.

See below.

You will actually flip the strip so that the long piece will be attached to the card front panel...but I'll explain further along in the instructions.

Fold on all score lines.

Flip the strip/mechanism so the long end is over the card front flap (left panel).

Designer Series Paper panels:  I used Abstract Beauty DSP

Cut a 4" x 4" piece of DSP.   Then cut this in half, to get 2 pieces 4" x 2".

Glue one panel to the front flap, positioning it up against the vertical score line.

1st DSP panel on card front flap, up against the score line.

Now, glue the 2nd panel to the inside, right-hand, but leaving a little border of the card base.  The two panels should line up when card is closed.

2nd panel, leaving border.

Panels line up when card is closed.  Note border of Blushing Bride card base around the outside edges.

Now to finish the inside:

  • White Card Stock for inside:  2" x 4".
  •  Stamp some grass (jade green ink) and a few flowers (crushed curry, blushing bride inks).  The grass is in the Easter Friends stamp set, the flowers are in the Hello Beautiful stamp set. (The Hello Beautiful has coordinating dies, available in a Bundle - saving 10%)
  • Glue panel to inside.

Next:  The "mechanism" - the strip of crushed curry card stock previously cut & scored.

Stamp sentiment from Easter Friends in Just Jade ink on the longer end (4 1/8" long end).

Using a strong adhesive or Tear & Tape, adhere this strip/mechanism to the card.  Be careful not to seal the card closed.  Add adhesive just to about half-way behind the sentiment on the left end.  At the other end, the end that is inside the card, the right end, you want to add adhesive the full 2 1/8" length.  NO ADHESIVE to the middle fold.

Focal Piece:

Stamp the duckling image from Easter Friends in crushed curry ink onto white CS.   Stamp some grass in Just Jade.

Cut out using Layering Circles dies.  You can run it through the MINI CUT & EMBOSS MACHINE - on SALE this month for 20% off!

Color as you like (optional):  I used a Blender Pen (no ink) to softly blend the ink that was stamped on.  I used a Stampin' Write Marker in Pumpkin Pie to color the duck bill & feet.  I have a micro-tip marker in black that I used to color the eyes.

Adhere duckling to card front:  apply glue just to the back half of the circle that will glue it to the card front flap. Again, you don't want to seal the card closed.

Add embellishments:  I used some heart & flower cut-outs that come in the Abstract Beauty Ephemera Pack.  I also used some Loose Flower Flourishes from the Annual Catalog.

There you have it.  Such a cute duckling that will bring a smile to anyone's face.  What do you think?  I hope you are inspired to try this card layout.  I can't wait to do more like this!
