Stampin' Up! Hand-Penned Petals

Just a few days remaining in the Designer Series Paper Sale - ends August 2.

I wanted to show you some cards made with the Hand-Penned 12" x 12" DSP - only $9.78 USD during the sale, saving you 15% . This has been the #1 best-seller so far.  There is no limit to the number of packages you order during this sale.  A great time to stock up on this and 8 other selections.  Shop HERE.

On to the cards that I want to share with you, today.

As you'll know if you've visited my blog in the past, I love this "split-front" card layout.  You can view the previous card by putting "Pansy Petals" in the search box in the right side-bar.  But I will be giving you the directions for the split-front card here, too.

In addition to the DSP, I used Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set, and the Penned Flowers coordinating Dies.  I also used the Sunflower Dies to cut a jagged, circular piece that you see behind the floral image.  Ink pads are Pale Papaya, Misty Moonlight, Soft Succulent, and Memento Tuxedo Black.

The layout, stamping, and cutting are the same for both cards.  I just used different choices of the DSP from the package of Hand-Penned DSP and different colors of card stock & inks.

The Misty Moonlight card

Card Base:  Misty Moonlight  - cut this 7 1/4" x 5 1/2".  Then score on the long side 4 1/4".

DSP:  Cut a piece 4" x 5 1/4", then cut this piece again at 2 3/4" - so you now have 2 pieces.

Adhere the DSP pieces to the Misty Moonlight base:

  • The smaller piece goes inside.

  • The larger piece goes on the card front.

Focal image piece

  • Use the Sunflower Die and cut out from a coordinating piece of DSP;  I used the one in Pale Papaya with the polka dots.
  • Use Hand-Penned stamps to stamp the floral image outline with black Memento ink onto Basic White card stock.
  •  Use the filler stamps to color in the outlined flowers
    • Misty Moonlight, "stamped off" first, so it's a lighter  value.
    • Pale Papaya for the smaller flowers
    • Soft Succulent for the leaves, some full-strength, some stamped off for lighter look.
  • Now die cut this piece using the Penned Flowers Dies.

Sentiment piece

  • Cut a strip of another coordinating DSP 1" by approximately 4 1/4".  Use a punch or fussy cut one end as a "flag" (V-cut).
  • Stamp the sentiment, keeping in mind it should be off to the right-side so the floral piece can overlap it a little.

Assemble

  • Adhere/glue the sentiment piece near the bottom of the card front; glue just to the left-front panel, without letting any glue be to the far right (which would seal the card closed).
  • Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the floral image to the sunflower die-cut piece; then with more Dimensionals, adhere to the card front, slightly overlapping the sentiment piece.

For the Inside:  Cut a piece of basic white CS 2 1/4" x 5 1/4".  Glue inside card.

Pale Papaya card

Repeat the steps used for the Moonlight card.

  •  Card base is Pale Papaya, 7 1/4" x 5 1/2", score at 4 1/4".
  • Coordinating DSP, 4" x 5 1/4" then cut at 2 3/4" giving you 2 pieces, 2 3/4"x 5 1/4" and 1 1/4" x 5 1/4".
  • Adhere smaller piece inside, larger piece to card front.
  • Stamp flower image in black; stamp the filler colors, Pale Papaya (flowers) and Soft Succulent (leaves); die-cut.
  • Die-cut large sunflower outline (rough circular piece) using Sunflower Dies and a coordinating piece of the Hand-Penned DSP.
  • Cut the sentiment piece from another coordinating piece of DSP; stamp sentiment in black.
  • Glue the sentiment piece, just to the card front, keeping the overlapping edge free (so not to glue the card shut).
  • Use dimensionals to place the focal piece, floral on top of the circular piece.

Embellishments:  You'll notice I added embellishments to both cards. This is optional, and you can use any gems or embellishment dots you have on hand.

On the Misty Moonlight card I used some Opal Rounds under the "thanks" and on the floral piece; also used some dark blue (older product I had) for centers.  On the Papaya card I used Elegant Faceted Gems in the flower centers and Matte Black Dots on the sentiment piece.

There you have it.  Let me know what you think.  Do you have a favorite?

I hope you are inspired to try this layout and create your own card.  It's very versatile and fun to use.  If you're on Face Book, share your projects at my FB Business Site:  Julie Petrie Crafts.

Remember to take a look at the Designer Series Papers that are on sale.

With 15% off, it's a great time to stock up.  Also note:  The In Good Taste 12" x 12" paper pack is larger than the others - it's 24 double sided sheets rather than the usual 12 sheets - it's a super pack of wood-grained & tile & fabric-textile looking papers. See by clicking GOOD TASTE.  These DSP make great backgrounds for so many types of cards, especially if you need a more masculine card.  Also the wood-grained papers will be great for Christmas cards that feature pine boughs, trees, and other elements from nature.  Good to shop them now, and save.  Click HERE to hop over to my online store.
