Stampin' Up! © Hydrangea Haven Mother's Day

 Hello!  Welcome to my blog.

I made this Mother's Day card to share with you, today.

The stamp set and dies are in the 2021 Jan-June Mini Catalog, available as a Bundle or as part of the Hydrangea Hill Suite.  The Bundle (Hydrangea Haven stamp set + Hydrangea Dies) will be carrying over into the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog, but not the entire Suite.  That means the other components, the DSP, ribbon, embellishments, and the mercury glass DSP are only available through June 30.

I've grow hydrangeas in my back yard, and I love their beautiful blooms throughout the summer.  It has been such fun to create cards using the stamps, to bring a bit of those blooms indoors, to share with you.  I thought they would make a pretty card for Mother's Day.   See if you agree.

My card design was inspired by Amy Koender's card at stampwithamyk.com.  I've used the colors Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape (card stock & inks), Old Olive ink, and I've added texture to the white CS panel using the Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder.

Materials & measurements

  • Card base:  Highland Heather card stock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", fold at 4 1/4".
  • Layer of Gorgeous Grape CS, 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".
  • Basic White CS, 5 1/8" x 3 7/8".  Emboss this piece with Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder.
    • (Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder is retiring May 3)
  • Hydrangea Haven photopolymer stamp set.
  • Hydrangea Haven Dies
  • Dressed to Impress photopolymer stamp set (for the sentiment)
  • Inks:
    • Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Old Olive, Basic Gray
  • Embellishments:  Pastel Pearls

Here's how I made this card:

(TIP:  in the description, when I say "stamped off"  I mean this:  first ink up your stamp, then stamp on a piece of scrape paper, then stamp onto your project.  This gives a lighter version of the same ink color)

  • Using Basic Gray ink, stamp the Hydrangea  detailed image onto white card stock twice (leave room to die-cut).  Stamp the filler colors (continue reading below) before die cutting.
  • Darker flower -
    • Use the large "filler" stamp and Gorgeous Grape ink, stamped off once, then stamped over the detailed image you've just stamped on white CS.  Use the small filler image and randomly stamp this flower over the top of the head of the hydrangea - again with Gorgeous Grape ink stamped off 1 time.  Use the filler leaf-stem image and Old Olive ink to fill in the leaves.  I stamped it in full color, no stamping off for this one.
  • Lighter flower -
    • In a similar way as I did for the darker flower, I stamped the filler images on this one.  This time the ink color is Highland Heather, stamped off, again, one time before stamping over the lined image.  The little flowers are again stamped randomly over the top of the flower head.   The leaves, this time, ARE stamped off once before filling in the lined image - I wanted a lighter look on this flower.
  • Once the flowers are colored in by stamping (as above), now it's time to die cut them out; using the Hydrangea Dies, cut out each flower.
  • Sentiment Piece:  stamp the "Happy Mother's Day" from Dressed to Impress stamp set using Basic Gray ink onto white CS.  Trim with a flag end.  Cut a piece of Gorgeous Grape CS to fit beneath it (approx.3/4" x 2 1/2").
  • Assemble:
    • Adhere the Gorgeous Grape CS layer to the Highland Heather card base.
    • Glue the white panel, which was embossed with Dainty Diamonds 3D Embossing Folder, to the card front.
    • Position the 2 die-cut hydrangeas as you like, and glue down.
    • Adhere the sentiment using Stampin' Dimensionals.
    • Add some of the pretty Pastel Pearls from the Hydrangea Haven Suite of products.

There you have it!  What do you think?

If you follow my blog, you'll know that I often like to make 2 (or even 3, sometimes!) versions of the card I'm sharing.  I hope to inspire you to think of other versions, as well.
 So....

....second card.  This was stamped like the first one, but I used a different color scheme.
  • The lined images are still stamped in Basic Gray.
  • But on this card, the colors for the flowers are Pool Party ink to stamp the filler flower head (both flowers):  stamp one full strength (darker flower) and then the 2nd stamped off one time (lighter flower).
  • The small floral image for darker flower is Misty Moonlight (stamped off) and I used Mint Macaron for the lighter flower.
  • The leaves are different ink, too; I used Granny Apple Green - full strength for darker flower, stamped off once for the lighter flower.

Materials & Paper measurements:
  • Card base:  Pool Party CS, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", fold at 4 1/4".
  • Layer of Black CS:  5 1/8" x 3 7/8".
  • DSP (polka dot) layer:  from Pattern Party DSP, 5" x 3 3/4".
    • The background is a piece of Pattern Party DSP - this will be available in the new 2021-2022 Annual Catalog starting May 4.
  •  The sentiment is from the Hydrangea Haven stamp set, stamped in Basic Gray on white CS, and die cut with Scalloped Contours Dies (available May 4 in the new catalog).  Adhere the sentiment with dimensionals.
  • Embellishments:  Matt Black Dots (in the Love You Always Suite, in the JJ Mini Catalog).
